I'm particularly interested in the green thingie - how did you do the weathering?

Many thanks!

So much still to do, the driver and gunner on the truck, not to mention THE TRUCK!!!!!!

Really pushing myself this time but not expecting anything as ill get the usual face like a slapped arse if i do at the event :P as Skellet or TenBall!

The green thing i assume is the bottom image?  Its the fuel tank from the truck.  It is the hairspray weathering method.  Basically a mix of browns and tank hull red etc, then 2 light coats of hairspray.  Once dry i sprayed Tamiya desert yellow, then a highlight spray of some buff mixed in.  Once dry you agitate the paint delicately with a stiff small brush, aiming for downward strokes to create gravity effect of rust wash etc.

Still freehand highlighting and further griming and shading to do.

From getting 2 finalists previously but recently had a bit of a dearth of awards at GD's, most feedback is to push my shading contrasts farther, more extreme and just carry on being as neat as possible and smooth.

If i get finalist with this entry ill be happy, as i dont know how much more i can push it to not even be getting finalist pins.

Thanks for the info mate!

I am so sure you will get a finalist (at least) if you continue that way, really great job!

All tho I am pretty certain that if you have a vehicle and a single model on the same base - it will be moved to the open category. But you have to check that info - I'm not 100% positive on that.

Keep up the great work!

Currently debating if i put the truck and 2 crew and the base into vehicle, and put the primus into 40k single.

Cant decide, whether having the primus in the scene adds to a story element or if he is good enough on his own to try for the single category and push it a bit more with him.

decisions decisions.

Very kind of you.

I just get nervous as its a lot of money to go to these events and coming away with not even a finalist makes it harder and harder to keep trying, so deciding what makes my best chance is hard.

Still lots of little details to finish on the primus, and then weathering on the hard surfaces.

Hi all,

Well i have been quiet for a while, but its not bad news, all good, IVF ongoing and success so far, but waiting for 12 week scan before calming down a bit, odly i will have this scan before the trip to coventry :).

I have been working away slowly (still lots to do and getting squeaky bum time), however started base work for my single figure 40k entry.

Really nice !

Is the texture on the pants stippling ?
Aren't you worried the yellow is too bright ? It's gorgeous but it really pops and the character looks very grimdark

TBH, i have given up trying to second guess my entries on what may or may not appeal or look good etc to the judges, if i am discarded because the base distracts from the model, well, then its all a bit stupid and tbh i am getting close to jacking it all in if this year is a complete bust again, as its really expensive and you just have no feedback so your just banging away trying to improve and feel that its like hitting a wall all the time.

Sorry if that's a bit nihilistic, im just all a bit fed up with it just now, feel its just a waste of my time, and considering i am painting for a living, its not a good place to be.

EDIT: after having a quiet word with myself and reading you question again, yes the textured parts on the cloth (trousers) and a bit of the sword are stippling, just trying out the technique as it seems popular and its a fun thing to do) the leather coat is just thin blending, i.e. very thinned paint built up with lots of layers (Hairdryer needed to speed it up).

I didnt mean to be sharp in my reply, just going through a lot at home with the IVF (no bad news) its just a constant nervousness, and i feel breaking out with my commission work isnt going to happen as FB and Instagram algorithms just mean nothing ever gets seen, or any group you go in scream at you "No commission painters posts", its all a bit depressing, in a fun hobby, there are a lot of killjoys. (not aimed at you obvs, :) )
