Ilraenor's WIPs
« on: January 04, 2019, 09:42:24 am »
Hey guys,

Starting off the new year with prepping a duel for golden demon. The duel will be an eldar wraithblade against sergeant harker.
I've started the eldar and so far it looks like this (this is painstakingly slow though) :

An insta poll has recommended adding white dots, i'll try that once I've finished the reds.
Beyond that, the plan is to have:
- some black parts (the fin like structure, weapon's staff and shield)
- some purple but different textures (crystal blade, gems, cloth)
- white head

I'd love some free hand on the cloth but I'm not sure as it's really small.
I'm not sure how I'll paint some details as I really don't want any metal and they are usually gold :/ (some gems sockets, the shield's "ribbon" and the heart thingy)

What do you guys think ?

Hello,

thanks for the kind words, my insta is patrickcudrey .
But for now, you'll mostly see the same things as here.

So far I've managed to finish the reds and most of the head. As I suck at freehands, I've used decals that I've touched up. I'm not entirely fond of the one on the head, there is some "volume" to it, the surface wasn't flat enough I guess..

Body :

Head :

I've thought about it some more, the "metal" pieces will be bone like in color. After all, if it's good enough for eldrad ulthran, it's good enough for a wraithblade :D

Thanks man,

Here is a little more as the black is more or less finished.

I'm going to have to put it on the side for now as I've entered a charity project with another miniature.

Just to point out, the bumps and lumps on Eldar vehicles and armour were never meant to be gems. They were supposed to be aesthetically-pleasing curved shapes to cover what would be unsightly sticky-out bits (joints, hydraulics, etc.) or access panels on non-Eldar vehicles. The only ones that were supposed to be gems were the ones mounted in specific mountings, like the main chest one on Guardian armour, etc.
The reason they got painted as gems was because of a mistake by the 'eavy Metal team, which has made life hell for Eldar painters ever since.
Sorry about that... ::)
But it does give you an out, eh?

(The paint job's looking really good, by the way. Love that deep red.)

Ooooooh I never knew that.

This actually makes a lot more sense. I'm definitely not an expert and I was thinking that the gems were soulstones. I always found it kinda weird how they would put so many dead eldars onto stuff...

(Thanks for the compliment :))

Not much hobby time lately as I've been building a new desk / workstation / shelf.
Anyway, here is where we're standing right now :

And here are some more shots of the base and the force field

The last picture is the closest I could get to actual look :/

Sergeant harker, who is so much of a pain to paint.

I don't know if it's the metal cast or what but there are so many small and deep recesses. Plus I glued the gun on and this makes a lot of stuff complexe to reach but that's on me.

Oh I know that feel bro, I tried to paint him for the November GD and dumped the project as it was nearly impossible to do him justice (from my perspective and with my skills).

Well, I ended up pushing myself just to finish it and start something else so Harker is a bit less refined than the eldar but here is the finished duel (maybe I should post in finished instead ?)

Harker:

Hey guys,

I have absolutely no conviction of winning anything for the everchosen plus, I'll be away at the time but my local warhammer store manager was kind enough to accept to keep it around before the actual day so I might as well participate.
The competition seems to be focused on currently sold miniatures so I chose the cheap knight incantor, I like the pose and I'm sure I can do something with the base. Anywho, I decided to opt out of my comfort zone and try my hand with lots of new stuff.
First of all, NMM:

This is really just the beginning. I'm not liking it too much for now, it looks not reflective enough. But I don't know how to do that and have a "general light" on the mini at the same time. So, I'm thinking I'll paint it as is and then do touch ups afterwards.
You can also see that the primer **** it up really bad and I have no idea why :'( Strangely enough, it is a lot less visible when painted over, as if the paint somehow smoothed it Oo

Ah nicely done mate!

If I can suggest something (not being any good in NMM tho xD) - add a bit more contrast to it :)
