Bases and transport

(1/2) > >>

Paulie Shaw:
Hi all,

I'm yet to put brush to model in an attempt at a demon yet still getting in the hours at a few techniques.

Even still I was wondering a few things regarding the competition, firstly.  How do you transport your models to the competition? I have a couple of KR multicases but I didn't know if brushing it against the foam would affect the paint job.

Also I see a lot of entries on plinths, some with bespoke bases and some on the standard size bases that are then on the plinths.  How much does the base affect the outcome?  For when I do armies I do like to have a theme for them, which has got more detailed and interesting as I've learnt new techniques.  CSM have astrogranite, Necrons have lava and currently Custodies have **** earth and rocks with shattered CSM.

The Chin:
I usually fly over to the GD at Warhammer Fest in May, so i'm always conscious of transporting models and the size I can manage on the plane.

Usually my models base is incorporated into the base provided with the model, and I've a small carriage clock box that has some really soft foam I use to secure it in place for the journey.

In terms of plinths I think it does help grab your initial attention but you don't want it overpowering the model. If the model and base only sit on the plinth I'd advise magnetising or at least blue-tac it to the plinth - the judges might not realise it's not secured and then whoops, there goes all your hard work! :'(

Queen_annes_revenge:
I'm planning on making my own box inserts out of toolbox foam to secure the bases of my entries, then pack the remainder with something soft like packing peanuts.

Mamikon:
I use custom made wooden boxes that fit every entry individually. My friend does them for me but I'm sure you can order these locally wherever you live.

I always use plinths for the competition pieces so I just screw the model (by the plinth) to the wooden box and never ever worry about my mini again :)

You don't need a wooden box, just anything like that will work, just open your mind and you will find something fitting!

10 ball:
I use velcro attached to the plinths.  Never had any problems.  Real quick to remove/attach minis .
