I’m actually sitting in Bugman’s right now, having done some shopping and walked trough the exhibition which I thoroughly enjoyed. So yeah I’m up for it and am in the area :)

Heya,

Finally ready to show another of my WIPs. I know that tactically, the Single Category isn't a great idea, but given how much time I have left, it's the only way for me to paint an entire model in a way I'm proud of. Also, as a newcomer, I feel like one of the best things I can do is bring my work and get some advice and feedback from more experienced painters.

I’ve been converting AoS and Blood Bowl Orks for my 40k because those old sculpts just don’t have enough variety of poses to be interesting. Luckily Orks wear such ramshackle armour that it still looks fine.

I'm definitely interested in hanging out with everyone at the end of the day!

I'd love to put faces on names etc . . . a lot of people who are going to be there, I think I know their work from instagram or facebook, but it'll be great to link that art back to real people :)

Work in progress / Re: Marc's Unbound Diorama

Thanks! That's good food for thought. It's going to be an interesting decision for the judges because this style doesn't have any blending in it . . . it's entirely hard edges and high contrast.

Still, I think it'll be a good idea for me to go back over the entire diorama and see if there's anything I want to clean up.

Thanks a bunch!

This is one of my entries and then I'm working on a duel and maybe a vehicle if I can get it done in time (highly unlikely).

For me, the big question is whether the super different style will be awarded by the judges or ignored. I'm a little scared that it'll just plain be ignored because it's super hard to judge it against more standard styles. We'll find out the answer to that question in a month and a half though.

Work in progress / Marc's Unbound Diorama

Hey all,

Here's my Comic Style diorama that I'll be entering in the Unbound category. It's going into an Armies on Parade at the moment, but I still have a bit of time to keep working on it before November's Open Day.

I have more photos, but there's a limit on uploads. The photos are also shown at this instagram post: https://www.instagram.com/p/Bo0wgaGnSOt/?hl=en&taken-by=marcchee but I'll try to upload them one at a time here.

Advice / Re: Hunting Golden Demons
« on: October 10, 2018, 11:52:50 pm »
Thanks a bunch for taking the time to write this!

I'm coming for my first Golden Demon, so it's a little bit daunting. Also since I'm coming from Australia, it's highly unlikely that I'll take another shot at it in the next few years, so I'm feeling a little bit of personal pressure to make the best of it. Hearing advice from people like yourself makes it a bit easier to have confidence to at least come and check it out . . . and also go in with a good attitude towards not having to win anything to make the trip worth it.

I'm also glad that my first entry will be in the Unbound category, which I'll post in the WIPs section sometime over the weekend.

Hey all, the tickets for the Open Day just went up for sale. I bought mine for the Saturday, which I assume is what one does, but not for the Sunday of the weekend because that’s a tournament entry.

Advice / Re: Non-Standard Painting Techniques

Cheers! Well Armies on Parade is already underway so I’ll post photos soon. Also my tickets to the UK are booked, so I’ll be there nonetheless and have plans for a little duel diorama that I will be making.

Is there a rule on whether you can enter something in more than one competition? Like say, Armies on Parade locally, then bring the same diorama for the Unbound category in Golden Demon?

Advice / Non-Standard Painting Techniques

Hi there,

I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with taking something really left field to Armies on Parade? For example, I've linked a picture of my comic book style that I've been working on recently and it's doing pretty well in some other competitions . . . has anyone tried something decidedly left field of the 'Eavy Metal style and would you have any advice for me if I wanted to bring something like this?

Heya!

I'm coming all the way from Australia! It's a bit of a pilgrimage for me to see the exhibition and also enter a diorama and probably a vehicle.

Would love any advice for people who've travelled there before . . . I can get myself to London fine, but I don't know much about accommodation in the area or getting tickets to the event etc.
