Advice / Re: True Metallic metals

You need to glaze down to a darker shadow, then take the highlights up to a starker metallic, a silver.

Hey guys. Good to see a lot of your entries last weekend! All of my entries won finalist pins, so I'm pretty happy. But now it's onto the next one. I've started some entries for the horus heresy weekender in Feb, even though it doesn't explicitly mention golden demon, it does say a 'painting competition' with no further details. Anyone else going to this event? I'm looking forward to it. Got a hotel booked so I will be able to hang out if there are other folks there, which I wasn't able to do at vigilus.

I don't think I'll be hanging around toolong after the judging, but if anyone wants to hang out during the day or get a beer in the bar, I'm the Speccy guy with a 50s hairstyle and tattoos, so come and say hi. I don't know if you can look at the demon entries through the day but I'd be happy to admire other folks entries! Other than that I'll be wandering around looking at stuff as I don't game, maybe trying to pick up some exclusive models.

Anyone know if there are downloadable entry forms available yet?

These are cool but I do not have the patience to paint vehicles. I like the bare chest orks. Could use them in some sort of conversion. Not a fan of that klaw though. Looks odd.

What time does the comp usually finish? Does anyone know?

Good luck! Hope everything goes well and you're blessed with a small human to love. It's honestly the best thing becoming a parent. I'm hoping the post on the site meant the last open day of the year, and not the last open day ever.

Using the site on mobile and trying to use the add attachment button,  but it just takes me back to the subforum page.

Finished projects / My Duel entry for november

Here's a sneak peak for my duel entry. It took me about 6 weeks to finish but I still find myself doubting it's quality when comparing to the photos on the demon page. But it's my first competition so I'm going to suck it and see.

I'll be leaving straight away to get back to put my little one to bed, but am more than happy to go to the bar during the day. I don't game so I'll have spare time while viewing everything. I hope it's not the last mini demon. Im not going to Germany to enter painting comps each year.

Advice / Re: Burning out/motivation

This is my first entry too. I've spent 4 weeks concentrating purely on my duel. Due to having a small human tearing round the house during daylight hours, once she's asleep, I only get 2 hours a night and maybe a little more on a weekend to paint. I painted each area until done without really painting other areas at the same time. I just toughed it out.. It was a long process, but once you start getting to final highlights you start to feel good about it. Now it's on to my other entries.

Advice / Re: Bases and transport

I'm planning on making my own box inserts out of toolbox foam to secure the bases of my entries, then pack the remainder with something soft like packing peanuts.

Suck it and see? What's the worst that can happen.
