Ok then ladies and gents, how did everyone do?

I inadvertently entered an almost impossible category (40k squad) and felt lucky to come away with a pin!

For the grainy part, I don't get how it happens but sometimes it's about a good shake of the paint pot and really thinning it down. This makes it a pain to get good coverage though so I usually base coat with a normal color close to what i want (grey for silver, brown for bronze etc).

I'd add that for shadows, you need to glaze with mate paints as metal as very mate shadows ^^

Had a go at glazing in some olive drab, made the metal a little bit more interesting, thanks!

Depending on dates and work I may be able to come along and enter my first demon.  Just have to decide what to paint now!

You need to glaze down to a darker shadow, then take the highlights up to a starker metallic, a silver.

Excellent, thanks, I'll give it a go on the next one :)

Hey all, after a bit of advice and I thought I'd come to the guys in the know!

I'm having trouble with true metallics and I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.  There's too much contrast with and the paint looks super grainy, help!  The metals on this guy's backpack and magazine are what I mean, they just look so dull :(
