Upcoming Golden Demons / Re: Warhammer fest 2020 - any takers
« on: February 12, 2020, 03:59:38 pm »
I'm going. I'm hoping to enter single 40k, middle earth/duel, open, and possibly large, although it depends what I can get done. I'll be going on my own and likely be staying at the ibis styles or novotel nearby(cheap, and short walking distance to the NEC) so if anyone wants to hang out, I'm down. made some friends last year but always up to make more!

I'll probably enter one of my previous GD entries. Being a bit lazy painting wise since fest.

I entered both singles, 40k squad and open, got finalist in all 4. Was a little dissapointed not to get a commended, as 2 of the entries got red, green and blue dots but after seeing lots of others not get them either I didn't feel as bad. The standard was awesome and looking back I feel that the judges may have been a little overwhelmed by the sheer number of world class entries. More than double the number from last year I believe.

I'll be staying at the novotel near by on the sat night so I'm up for that. I'm also happy to drive folks (provided it's a reasonably short distance) to any nearby pub, as I will likely only have one or two drinks.

Yeah you're right really, I came to that conclusion myself. I was just trying to figure whether it was worth braving the queues to get on the shelves early. I think there are little things you can do to stack the deck in your favour though. A slightly wider plinth to keep other entries from crowding the personal space of your entry.. Which is what I may or my not be doing...

Although, if there are a large number of entries, getting in later could be beneficial as earlier entries get pushed to the back. Anyone got any thoughts on the wider science of entering? Timings etc? Maybe I'm over thinking a bit.

Advice / Re: Need help with my glazing, I'm at a loss!
« on: February 25, 2019, 12:55:58 pm »
Are you glazing with a Lm/paint mix? I'd maybe not glaze to your highlight. Glaze between your kantor and mid tone, then layer and feather up to your highlight. Glazes are more for dragging from light to dark into your shadows, not taking up a Highlight.

Got my ticket for the weekend. Doss anyone know if entries can be submitted from the Saturday or is it only the Sunday? This will affect how early I decide to arrive ha.

Got my entries on the go. Entering AoS single, 40k single, 40k squad, open and possibly a duel depending on how much time I have.

I was the same before vigilus last Nov. But I used tmm on all my entries and it didn't really affect the judging I don't think.

There is an annoying lack of info on any of their events. You'd think a company as successful as gw could hire some personnel to do some event management/promotion.

Advice / Re: Basing material
« on: January 21, 2019, 11:20:20 am »
Well I'm planning on using a branch off cut which I've prepared, cut and filed myself for the actual base, but I wanted to put grass tufts, bushes and plants on it. I have some citadel tufts but for the general underbrush they don't really make anything suitable. I have a glade basing set from Oliver spaeth, some of you might know him on insta. Which has amazing foliage in it, I just didn't want to be disqualified for using it

Advice / Basing material
« on: January 21, 2019, 07:58:46 am »
So I have an entry lined up for the AOS single, and I want to base him in an area wihh heavy vegetation. My question is will using basing material not from gw (their vegetation range is so poor, and I don't want to use plastic plants) affect results in the judging? I'd like to think the judges will look past something like that, and some of the previous entries I've looked at contained trees and other types of flora clearly not made by gw. What do you guys think?

I have entries lined up ready for this event. Got 5 months to paint them. Plan to enter a good few categories.

Yeah that's fair enough. It is very pricey. I wondered what was going on with the painting competition too. Will try and get more information as it gets closer to the event. Its a shame its not a demon, but gives me more time to work on entries for the classic demon I guess.
