Hello everyone!

This is the place to talk about the Everchosen – The Global Warhammer Painting Competition.

Heres the info:

https://www.warhammer-community.com/2019/05/26/everchosen-the-global-warhammer-painting-competition/

To celebrate the new range of Citadel Colour paints, we’re marking the occasion in style with a new type of painting competition – a global event that you can enter locally in stores across the world, and with a prize worthy of a king…

https://youtu.be/bfJ1vQcd4HQ

On Saturday the 27th of July, Warhammer and Games Workshop stores, as well as participating independent retailers, will be holding a local painting competition. The winner of the Everchosen category (see below) from each store will have photos of their models uploaded to a huge gallery online, where everyone can vote for their favorite entries. The results of the public vote will then be combined with the votes from our own studio painting teams, with the top three entries being entered into the Everchosen Grand Final. These finalists will be invited to bring their miniatures to Warhammer World from wherever they are in the world – we’ll even cover their travel and accommodation. One of these mighty painting heroes will be crowned Everchosen, and win a replica of Archaon’s legendary sword, the Slayer of Kings.

Painting Categories

There are actually two other categories of the painting competition that will be taking place in stores on the day, in addition to the gala Everchosen category:

Open – Entries can be any miniature currently available from Games-Workshop.com, unit or collection than will fit into a 30cmx30cm (12”x12”) display area. This category is also open to Games Workshop staff!

Young Bloods – Entries can be any single Citadel miniature (of any size) that is available from Games-Workshop.com. This category is only open to painters aged 15 and below.

Everchosen – Entries can be any single Citadel miniature (that fits on a Citadel 60mm base or smaller) that is currently available from Games-Workshop.com. The winner of the Everchosen category will go on to represent their store in the global online vote!

We’ll be bringing you more news on this exciting competition (including the obligatory terms and conditions) soon, so keep an eye here on the Warhammer Community website for more details. Of course, even if you don’t consider yourself a world-class painter (yet!), there is still an opportunity to win local glory in the opening stage of the Everchosen competition, so head over to Games-Workshop.com now and start picking your entry – Saturday the 27th of July will be here before you know it!

Sooooo, who is entering?

'Eavy Metal style painitng challenges / 'Eavy Metal style challenge 1.
« on: October 23, 2018, 04:23:20 pm »
Hello!

This is the place where we talk about our new challenge - the 'Eavy Metal style painting challenge #1!

So I thought this might be an interesting idea and extra motivation to get your painting skills on point!

Basically we run a few painting challenges a year, this time it's all around emulating the 'Eavy Metal style as it's really iconic for anyone that knows anything about Warhammer  :D

RULES:

1) You can paint as many models as you want as long as they are a single entry but I would recommend a single miniature. One person can only enter once.
2) You need to post a picture of the unpainted entry with a sign in the background saying "Demon Slayers Forum 'EM Challenge". If you've started painting - you can enter as long as the entry is mostly unpainted.
3) The "before" and "after" pictures of your entries must be posted in this thread.
4) You can post a maximum of 4 pictures of your finished entry.
5) All the entered models must be a product of GW, FW or sculpted. No third party models please.
6) It's highly suggested to have your entry painted in Eavy Metal style as the challenge is all about Eavy Metal but if you want to stick to your own style - thats absolutely fine.
7) The miniature has to have a finished base to be judged.

The results of the judging will be disclosed on April 3rd.

We will have a panel of 3 judges, all of them being ex Eavy Metal painters so they most definately know what the "Eavy Metal" style is!

Here are the judges:

Matthew Kennedy

Martin Peterson

Stuart Thomas

The deadline is March 31st 2019.

To enter you have to:

1) Post a picture of the unpainted model with a sign in the background saying "Demon Slayers Forum 'EM Challenge"

2) Post the final pictures with the completed paintjob.

The Prize is founded by myself and I wanted to keep it GD related so the winner gets a ticket for the Warhammer Fest (and the Golden Demon)!

Kind regards,
Mamikon

Advice / How to win a Golden Demon or die trying (getting finalists)!
« on: September 23, 2018, 01:22:55 pm »
Hello guys! I figured that we should have a thread like this for people who are trying to win their first Demon and they are seeking advice from people who have more experience.

I can’t say that I have a lot of experience as I’ve only participated in 5 golden demons.

The first one was in 2008 when I was a kid, I’ve won a silver Young Blood Demon.

Next time was in 2014, I’ve got a finalist in single and nothing in large model.

Then in 2016 Ive went for the 40K open day and got two finalists, one in single and one in duel +nothing for my vehicle and open.

Finally in 2018 I’ve went to two demons, first one was the Hours Heresy Weekender in February, coming away with a gold in Necromunda Gamg category and two finalists for my duel and open.

Then, in July, there was the Forge World and Specialist Games open day that left me with two bronze demons for my Necromunda single and Age of Sigmar single and two finalists for LotR single and open.

So I can’t really give that much advice at the moment as I don’t feel hat I’m a professional in winning, nether I am completely sure I can give advice, that when applied correctly, can actually make you win...

I will only say:
1) Make your miniature as clean as possible. There can literally be NO flaws. The judges will spot every single error there is, no matter how well you’ve hidden it!
2) Paint more on less. What I mean is: painting a smaller piece to your best possible level is better than paintg a huge, monumental piece to a level that isn’t that good. You don’t need a incredibly cool diorama to win in say open category, if you have an amazing paintjob on a 28mm character - you have a good chance!
3) Have an idea for the piece, make it tell a story. I think judges appreciate that. If you have a piece that isn’t only well painted but tells a story - you are more likely to get more attention. I think that’s just common sense, if you have two amazingly painted miniatures but one is cooler, has something special to it, which one are you going to award? Exactly.

To be clear, this is just some advice I can give, this isn’t scientifically proven to work, just my thoughts  :D ;D ;)

I would like to ask anyone who has some experience and knowledge to share their advice here as it can be incredibly helpful for people that are trying to improve their painting and get that Demon they dream about.

I remember spending so much time on wrong things that didn’t place, feeling so empty, so depressed. And it wasn't the fact that I couldnt paint. I just didn’t know what to focus on, I didn’t understand my mistakes. Then I got some advice and now I’ve got a few demons to stand on my shelf.

If you are seeking advice - this is the place to ask. As for 3 days of this forum existence (on September 23rd) we have 34 users and over 50 golden demons shared throughout them all. I believe there’s plenty experience here to share  ;)

Kind regards
Mamikon
