Yeah you're right really, I came to that conclusion myself. I was just trying to figure whether it was worth braving the queues to get on the shelves early. I think there are little things you can do to stack the deck in your favour though. A slightly wider plinth to keep other entries from crowding the personal space of your entry.. Which is what I may or my not be doing...
-
Anyone got any thoughts on the wider science of entering?
Make your entry truly outstanding and you won't have to worry about where it's put or when :)
(I completely understand that being put at the back of the bottom shelf will mean you get less time looked at, but if it's good enough to win a Demon, it should probably only need a glance to register as a great piece)
-
Although, if there are a large number of entries, getting in later could be beneficial as earlier entries get pushed to the back. Anyone got any thoughts on the wider science of entering? Timings etc? Maybe I'm over thinking a bit.
-
I'll try and find out closer to the event then. Wanna get that prime cabinet real estate haha.
-
I think you can enter on Saturday from 12:00 but I'm not sure.
-
Got my ticket for the weekend. Doss anyone know if entries can be submitted from the Saturday or is it only the Sunday? This will affect how early I decide to arrive ha.
Got my entries on the go. Entering AoS single, 40k single, 40k squad, open and possibly a duel depending on how much time I have.
-
Got the info about the categories half a year ago so no real surprise heh.
Oh thanks for letting us know mate xD
-
Got the info about the categories half a year ago so no real surprise heh. On the bright side you dont have to paint a whole gang or team, 3 minis are enough which make it more managable.
Dont like the em mini so probably not going to paint it, at least not for the uk fest.
-
It mixes it up a bit which is good, but makes it an even more crowded field.
I have that mini already so i am going to tackle it and see as i like the category and the timeframe is the same for everyone, if a bit tight!
-
It's not like you can't enter a gang or a team, they just got merged into the units categories.
Competition will be a little fiercer as you will have more people crammed into one category but that always a bit random.
-
Yep, very hard!
But I think still many people will tackle it, I think I will do it just to imporve my skills and push myself but I would never paint this model if it wasnt for this reason...
Shame they scraped Necroumnda Gang and BloodbBowl team categories as I'm sure some people were already working on their entries but I guess there is a positive side to it too...
What are everyone's thoughts? Are you happy with the rules?
-
Damn that's one hard miniature to paint.
-
Just saw that, Max Falej messaged me with it on twitter. Better yet i already own the figure for the masterclass in blister.
Interesting about new categories, ill need to go over it with a cup of coffee as just in from a day out with the wife.

The information has arrived!!
Isharann Tidecaster is the EMM model for this year. Happy painting everyone.
-
Tickets are up on sale for Warhammer fest.
Can't find any news on GD category information for this year yet though.
-
The 2018 rules are gone from the GD website... Maybe we will get the rules sooon?!

Do I just need a ticket to the event to enter the GD or is there a seperate ticket?
My first one so new to all this!
Yep, you just need a ticket for the weekend to enter.

Less negativity more positivity guys :)
Just leave that to the end ey? :D
-
I am aiming for 40k single, AoS single, and vehicle. However i would like them to pull finger out with the masters category as almost less than 4 months to go.
-
I dont think there is going to be a helmet category though ;)

Im just drawing your attention off something that will blow your mind! ;D ;)
-
I dont think there is going to be a helmet category though ;)
-
Well, I dont think they will be changing the main categories so I'm just painting entries for single now ;D
I think we can be almost certain that the WHF UK will be on May 11th and 12th. I have even booked my holiday at work for that date :D
-
There is an annoying lack of info on any of their events. You'd think a company as successful as gw could hire some personnel to do some event management/promotion.
-
Yeah was the Ricoh arena events, general enquiry line.
I don't see it as cheeky, i'm fed up of GW being super secret squirrel with regards to event dates, these event hall hires are usually blocks of 5 year contracts and when travel and hotel costs only get dearer closer to the events, they know ages in advance, and telling folk the event date less than 5 months before it is infuriating, especially as other events are often around this time and i have to budget out trips.
The fact they moved Euro from september to the same weekend/month as WF is so annoying, they know many people go to both events, so now they are forcing folk to choose one. I really want to go the Euro, but my first aim is to win a G demon so WF will always win out, especially as GW have scrapped the mini demons now.
I am going to contact Max falej and ask if the Golden demon at WF 2019 is on the sunday as if they swap it round for this year the hotel booking swap could be fun.
It was the same with the EM masterclass event, it was something like 6 weeks before the event they suddenly had tickets out, which sold out in minutes, and i cant pluck some £600 out of thin air for 3 nights hotel, flight and the ticket they need to be planning stuff out in terms of telling folk, not releasing the ticket, but advertising dates.
However i realise GW doesnt need to care as they get the ticket money and its not their issue.
-
Whatthehell Euro militaire expo in uk is the very same weekend. 52 weekends/year and they **** nailed it. Good work everybody involved hahaha. Bollocks!

Richo, yeah?
-
Its deffo the 11th and 12th, i do my usual of phoning the hotel events team and asking, just saying i'm part of set up team and been given 2 dates etc, can they confirm.
How cheeky are you! Hahaha
Well thats great! What hotel did you phone?

As its expensive enough booking the trip so early booking is best.
The guy on the phone confirmed its the 10th for setup and sat sunday is the event :)
The main issue is if the painting comp is on the sat or the sunday, as they have mucked about with this recently.

Not 100% sure but!
See point 3.2:

"3.2 The UK Awards Evening will take place on Friday 10 May 2019 at:
Warhammer Fest 2018
Ricoh Arena
Judds Lane
Coventry
CV6 6GE
United Kingdom"
So it would make sense for the Fest to be on May 11th and 12 as it's Saturday and Sunday :)
-
Source? Are you 100%?
-
The date is May 11th and 12th.
-
I am surprised they havent posted anything about wh fest yet, especially regarding the small twist of categories. I wouldnt be too happy if i worked on painting a blood bowl team just to find out the category is canned. Also as said, we need to know the em master category miniature. Four months go by fast!
-
I'm looking forward to it. WHFest is the highlight of the year for me. I'm really hoping the Masters category figure is something with a face, though. And I'm really hoping I have more than one model finished for GD this year...I have a couple of things planned.
-
It would make sense to be the noise marine wouldn't it ?
I mean, it's 40k, it's a standalone and it has "no" real value compared to all the other noise marine and they have been generating a lot of hype around it
Potentially, although in comparison to the last two (Questor and Primaris Captain), I think the noise marine is much less of a 'blank canvas'
I'll definitely be interested to see what people come up with if it is the noise marine though :)

You'd think soon we'll get some info because they've still got to announce the Eavy Metal Masters model for any who dare enter that category.
Oh I want to enter that! Should be 40K this year! :)
-
Has anyone heard anything? Dates?
My guess would be Coventry in May but I am not sure.

Depending on dates and work I may be able to come along and enter my first demon. Just have to decide what to paint now!
-
I intend to go too, hope I'll meet some of you guys :)
I have "finished" one entry I'm not placing too many hopes in and I have two more lined up. I'm counting on this forum / thread to keep motivated (which let's be honest is not my forte)
-
I have entries lined up ready for this event. Got 5 months to paint them. Plan to enter a good few categories.
-
So much inspiration from the open day, can't wait for WHF.
-
Let's just start this :D
